I’m Michael Fowler, a qualified person-centred counsellor and a member of the BACP, therefore I abide by their ethical code of conduct.
I take a relational & dialogical approach to counselling which is a collaborative, integrative perspective deeply rooted in humanistic and person-centred values. Its fundamental premise is that each client is unique, and therefore may need different things from therapy.
“It seems to me that at the bottom each person is asking, "Who am I, really? How can I get in touch with this real self, underlying all my surface behaviour? How can I become myself?” (Carl Rogers)
I’ve always been inspired by personal development and self-empowerment due to my suppressed experiences from the past. Undergoing therapy myself was life-changing, enabling me to overcome previous difficulties which had stemmed from a past trauma. I learned about my own potential to help others and retrained into person-centred counselling.
The client-therapist relationship is integral and based on mutual trust and two-way interaction, so you can feel completely safe while being the expert in your own reality. In my practice today, it feels highly rewarding to help others, such as yourself to gain clarity in who you are, so you can move forward - I really cherish the moment. To be a part of your journey of change and growth is so empowering.
