People come to counselling for many reasons, each as unique as you are. Often, it's about finding a safe space to unpack thoughts and feelings that seem overwhelming or confusing. You may be feeling stuck or lost, anxious and depressed or perhaps you have experienced trauma. Counselling helps you navigate the fog, find new paths, or sometimes, confirm that you are on the right path.
As a person-centred counsellor, I can help you move forward with confidence and clarity. You can discover your authentic self - no matter what difficulties you face on a journey of self-discovery, inner healing, growth, and empowerment.

Hello, I’m Michael Fowler, a qualified person-centred counsellor and member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. I'm based in Eastbourne and work with teens and adults with utmost compassion on the premise that healing and growth always occur where there is safety, kindness and care.
Therapy can be challenging, but it might be the most important journey you’ll ever embark upon. I can help you find your full potential and develop your personal strengths, deal with trauma or any personal difficulty, so you can identify what is really meaningful to you to lead the life you want.
Therapy vs Counselling
‘Therapy’ and ‘Counselling’ are often used interchangeably as they both aim to help individuals improve their mental, emotional, and psychological well-being. It can help you manage various challenges and live a more fulfilled life by understanding what you're feeling, why, and how to cope. Just like visiting your doctor or dentist, meeting with a therapist can help keep your mental health in order.
Who is counselling for?
You may be seeking counselling during times of crisis, like after the loss of a loved one, during a relationship breakdown, or following a significant life change such as moving or starting a new job. Maybe you are overwhelmed by anxiety or depression and can’t move forward. Perhaps you’ve experienced trauma, past or present and it is affecting how you feel about yourself.
Is counselling right for me?
Often the hardest decision is taking the first step to seek counselling. It can feel daunting not knowing who to turn to for support. You are not alone - counselling offers you a safe and warm non-judgemental space built on mutual trust, so you can feel at ease about expressing yourself openly.
How important is the relationship between a counsellor and a client?
The relationship between us is one of the most important aspects of therapy and the key to therapeutic success. I work in a relational way which means we build up a strong foundation of trust. As your counsellor, I experience high levels of empathy, acceptance and transparency towards you.
Are our sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is fundamental to building our relationship and to our work together. There are a couple of exceptions where information within our sessions might need to be shared. But we will always discuss any disclosure to others with you beforehand and we try to jointly agree on a way forward. As a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) I abide by their ethical code of conduct.
How many sessions do I need and how often?
I offer short and long-term counselling. Weekly sessions are generally considered standard practice; however, fortnightly is possible. We usually keep the same time and day each week, which guarantees my availability to you. Therapy is specifically tailored to your unique set of needs, which we discuss during our sessions.
What does person-centred counselling entail?
As a person-centred therapist, I am to create a comfortable, non-judgemental environment by showing genuineness, positive regard and empathic understanding. At the same time, I allow you to choose the direction of therapy for yourself. The role of the person-centred counsellor is to facilitate this decision by asking questions to help clarify what you think and how you feel to help you find your own solutions to your problems.
What issues/problems can be helped by person-centred counselling?
Person-centred counselling is used to help with various issues which include relationship problems, depression, anxiety, bereavement, addictions, trauma, abuse, anger and transitions in life for example.
